Concept
The project concept derives from the simple question: “What do you think of death?” Death commonly strikes fear, yet how one perceives and handles a person’s death can be quite different across cultures. Some cultures view death as a final end, with nothing occurred after their death; others believe in a continuous interactions between the deceased and the living ones.

Inspired mainly by the Eastern cultural belief, this project reflects the viewpoint of the Eastern cultural and religious values based on the premises that a large population of Eastern cultures perceive death as a natural and essential factor in one’s life.

Project Thesis:"The Funeral”: An Immersive Experience of Mortality as a Form of Meditation and Retrospection of Life"
Inspiration
Inspired by the works of several artists across different cultures as well as these artists’ clever use of various media and visual presentation, the project concept and aesthetics stem from existing cultural examples of death, including the photography and installation works of the Taiwanese artist, Ning Sen, the portrayal of the cremation process in A-Mei’s music video, and many other influential artists that used contemporary media in the forms of fabric installation and projection mapping art in their works.
